So beyond http://www.chuckfletcher.com which I’ll use as a catch all, I decided to organize my projects and learning efforts into distinct blogs:

Rails Like Frameworks
I love rails. I’ve done some significant work with it over the last few years and learned alot. AJAX, test/behavior driven development, and just better coding. More recently the rest of the development world has caught on to many of the Rails conventions and released frameworks for other languages. I often have to deliver solutions for my company’s clients in different languages (besides rails) and usually end up outsourcing it.

Learning some of these other languages wasn’t really interesting to me, until these new Rails Like platforms came out. I’m now in the process of applying my Rails knowledge to .NET MVC (C#), Grails (Java) and CakePHP (PHP). I think the convergence and competition between these frameworks will be an interesting area for a long time to come. To follow my learning and experimentation watch the blog below.

Iphone Development
The Iphone is such a sexy platform. Gorgeous hardware, slick software and a this amazing distribution network: the app store on Itunes. The Iphone platform is not easy to develop for, but the effort is totally worth it. I’ve been working on creating an iphone client for http://www.mologogo.com which I built several years ago in rails. I’ve got some stuff working and am constantly trying to figure out the next pieces to keep if moving forward. As I go I’ve been bookmarking lots of resources and figuring out some things I couldn’t find via searches..

Android Development
While working on the Iphone development stuff I found myself also interested in developing for Android as well. More from the perspective of creating front-ends for rails apps than a Mologogo client (Which my partner Jason could build in about 3 hours with his eyes closed). But again I create a place to manage what I pick up along the way. One note about Android development, the fact that they added a $3 chip gives it an ability to trample the Iphone in one area - Augmented Reality - see below…

Emerging Marketing Technologies
My professional career is that of a Director of Technology for Digital Agencies. I’ve been doing this for a long time at this point, but to keep it interesting I’m always watching emerging technologies. I usually do regular talks at the agencies I’ve worked at and figured I’d create a place to collect and organize my ideas for the whole internet vs, just my current agency (Euro RSCG). My current hot-tech-du-jour is Augmented Reality, which is so cool and so ripe for someone to make a big splash with it in the US. Check out what this company Metaio just did for Lego… Also stay tuned for a write up of my meeting with Metaio last week…
